vault & windows warm a large space
Have you ever wondered why some designs feel better than others? I’ve spent my entire career as a designer speculating on why a design element, be it a finish material, a colour or a floor plan layout, works well in one circumstance and fails in another.
Why does one timber frame element look ” planted on” in one design where the same element looks like it belongs on another home?
In my experience its a matter of integrating the elements into the design at a very basic level. It’s not always a big concept or style like timber framing. Often a small detail can have large an impact on the design concept.
An example – If a client likes a cleaner interior look but still likes a feeling of traditional wood detailing I often specify wood on the interior of the windows and window liners but without any wall trim. It looks warm and clean. The choice of wood species on the windows influences choice of wood on doors, cabinets, flooring, and wall colour in a way that a neutral colour like white might not.
My passion is the integration of all the homes elements and fitting them into a whole in a way that is seamless and plays well with the my clients way of living!
