taking a dark basement hall and turning into a warm inviting library
Halls. I like to turn hallways into useful space.
The picture above is from a renovation project where the walk out basement bedrooms were left largely intact. There was some unused but walled off area along a hall way. The hallway runs from a family room / media room to the secondary bedrooms. I took that space added to the hall way and created a library for the clients extensive video collection. All titles on display in a well lighted space with simple built-in cabinets
Hall between a mudroom and kitchen? Not a chance – it’s a place for built-in cabinetry AKA a pantry.
Hall to a master suite? In my world that can become a vestibule to the bedroom en suite and closet and that has the linen closet or a small library.
Hall to the secondary bedrooms? In a smaller home I like to make it big enough call that the family room.
By eliminating as much hall space as possible I have a plan I like to show clients that is 970 square feet two bedrooms two full bathrooms and a lining/ dining /kitchen / open plan. Oh I forgot to mention it does have one hall but that’s because it’s the laundry area …..
